A great opportunity for the people of Great Ayton and visitors to the village to discover the fascinating history of the wonderful All Saints Church.

All Saints Church is a Grade I listed building which has elements dating back to the 9th century and some members of Captain Cook’s family are buried in the graveyard. If you’ve never visited before, take this opportunity to take a tour and absorb the knowledge of expert guide Dave W. Taylor.

All Saints Church Great Ayton

Duration: Approximately 1 hour (not really suitable for children)

Cost: It’s free but it would be great if a donation could be offered, which will go to maintain this wonderful building. There is a donation box on site.

This is the first in a series of winter wonder talks being organised by the Great Ayton History Society.

Great Ayton History Society’s winter talks series has been enabled thanks to the kind support of the Margaret Mawston Memorial Trust. Who was Margaret Mawston? She was a lovely resident of the village, (now deceased) who was a really talented lady – a scientist, linguist, and poet. Margaret was secretary of the Workers Educational Association for 18 years and her love of the village led her to endow two trust funds aimed at enhancing village life.
