Treat yourself and escape the everyday this autumn and winter by discovering Great Ayton.

This month Visit England, in partnership with the tourism organisations of London, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, launched a national campaign to encourage people to take a domestic break during autumn and winter this year.

The campaign is designed to highlight the wonderful destinations and attractions available from coast, cities and countryside across Great Britain and Northern Ireland, encouraging and inspiring people to discover and explore what's available on our doorstep.

The campaign is asking for destinations, tourism businesses and visitor attractions to get involved in promoting everything fantastic about the amazing tourism locations on offer.

Escape the everyday this autumn and winter in Great Ayton

Great Ayton is an ancient village nestled along the banks of the River Leven and located on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and situated at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, most famously known for being the boyhood home of Captain James Cook during the 18^th century.

The Royal Oak, one of the remaining and original four inns, is warm and welcoming, perfect for a Sunday roast at a reasonable price and dog friendly.  Award-winning Petch Butcher’s is a must for their famous pork pie. For those searching for more intimate dining, Joplins Restaurant is a must to try.  Book yourself in for some much needed pampering time at award-winning Watkins-Wright Hairdressing and Beauty and try a magical winter walk-inn break at the King's Head Inn with stunning views of Roseberry Topping. And, not to forget, Suggitt’s Ices, world famous ice cream and sweet shop.  The secret ice cream recipe has remained the same since it was first created in 1922.

Many wonderful adventures await and magical memories are to be made whilst exploring the beautiful, natural and unspoiled landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Cleveland Way National Trail, Gisborough Moor, Captain Cook's Monument and the world famous and mystifying “Yorkshire Matterhorn”, Roseberry Topping, formed from sandstone and dates back to the Middle and Lower Jurassic periods between 208 and 165 million years ago.
